Sculptures and legends of Győr - thematic walking tour

In Győr, the baroque city centre along the rivers, there are many interesting buildings.

But walking around the city centre, you will also notice many beautiful statues. They are not only wonderful works of art, but each has a unique story to tell. Why does water drip from a soda bottle? Who made a deal with the devil? Why is there a man boating in the middle of a pedestrian street? Why is there an iron cock on top of an ornamental fountain? Behind the questions lie real stories, secrets and legends. Come with us and discover the legends of Győr through the stories of the statues.

If the number of applicants reaches the threshold for two groups, the sightseeing tour will be conducted in smaller groups of up to 20 participants, ensuring a comfortable and personalized experience for everyone.

Join us for an immersive exploration of Budapest's iconic landmarks, architectural marvels, and vibrant cultural scenes, specially curated for Kautz Conference participants.

Morning Departure from Győr

Our program begins with a 7:00 AM departure from Győr by bus, ensuring a comfortable journey to Budapest and an early start to explore the city’s treasures.

Morning Departure: Scenic Bus Tour

Our journey commences from Erzsébet Bridge, traversing the picturesque Belgrád embankment and the Inner City Ring Road. We'll pass through Deák Square and along Rákóczi Road, offering glimpses of Budapest's dynamic cityscape.

Stefánia Avenue: As we proceed along Stefánia Avenue, marvel at the exquisite Art Nouveau architecture. Notably, the Hungarian Royal Geological Institute, designed by Ödön Lechner between 1896 and 1899, showcases vibrant Zsolnay ceramic tiles and intricate folk motifs, epitomizing Hungarian Secessionist design.

Heroes' Square:
Our next stop is the grand Heroes' Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you'll have approximately 45 minutes to explore the Millennium Monument, capture photographs, and enjoy a brief respite.

Midday Exploration: Architectural Gems

Andrássy Avenue to Széchenyi Square:
Continuing our tour, we'll journey along the elegant Andrássy Avenue, lined with neo-Renaissance mansions and townhouses. Arriving at Széchenyi Square, you'll encounter the magnificent Gresham Palace, an Art Nouveau masterpiece completed in 1906. Originally serving as an office and apartment building, it now houses the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel, renowned for its ornate ironwork, stained glass, and mosaic tiles.

From this vantage point, enjoy stunning views of the Chain Bridge and the Buda Castle, both emblematic symbols of Budapest's rich history.

Váci Street:
We'll then explore Váci Street, a bustling pedestrian thoroughfare famed for its eclectic mix of shops, cafes, and restaurants. This vibrant street offers a delightful atmosphere, perfect for leisurely strolling and soaking in the city's charm.

Lunch Break: Independent Exploration

Between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM, enjoy a leisurely lunch break with the freedom to discover Budapest’s diverse culinary scene at your own pace. Whether you prefer a traditional Hungarian restaurant, a cozy café, or a modern bistro, the Pest side offers a wide range of dining options to suit every taste. This time also allows for a short stroll, relaxation, or personal sightseeing before regrouping for the afternoon program.

Afternoon Walk: Historical Landmarks

Post-lunch, we'll embark on a guided walking tour covering:

St. Stephen’s Basilica: Hungary's largest church, renowned for its impressive dome and the preserved right hand of King Stephen.
Liberty Square: A significant site featuring monuments commemorating Hungary's complex history.
Hungarian Parliament Building: An architectural marvel situated along the Danube, it's one of Europe's oldest legislative buildings.
Return to Győr

Following the cruise, we'll depart for Győr by bus, with an anticipated arrival between 7 PM and 8 PM.
